Last month, our CEO Alexis and Exchange Program Manager Brianna delivered the first-ever Austria to Austin Roadshow! From May 1-10th, the team traveled to Vienna, Linz, and Innsbruck, hosting networking sessions, educational office hours, and of course, a 3 Day Startup program. Centered around the theme of “Going Global,” the Roadshow was a great opportunity to gain insight into Austrian entrepreneur ecosystems, and to strengthen business ties between Austria and the US.
In just 10 days, Alexis and Bri were able to meet with future ATA participants, bring together ATA alumni, and double down on impact by engaging with interested students and members of the community. In partnering with the Chamber of Commerce in all three cities, 3DS gained a better understanding of how Austria is investing in their emerging leaders, while also meeting with community businesses to discuss future partnerships.
ATA Alumni at the Roadshow Kickoff – Amerika Haus, Vienna
The Roadshow started with a kickoff celebration in Vienna at Amerika Haus, where the ATA community gathered and heard US Embassy Vienna Chargé d’Affaires, Eugene Young, discuss the objectives and impact of the ATA program. In the following days, we saw such creativity and inspiration during the 3DS program, and the presence of the ATA community made final pitches especially exciting. ATA 1.0 alumni served as panelists, ATA 2.0 were mentors, and the audience was filled with ATA 3.0 members and interested students, all in support of the entrepreneurs who participated. One venture was Phocus — an app that offers incentives for time spent phone-free! Another star was a microlearning platform created for students called My Future Academy. Both of these went on to pitch at the Entrepreneur Avenue Conference, the largest student startup event in Europe!
The energy didn’t stop there, there were still stops in Linz and Innsbruck! During the community networking event in Linz, our team met members from Factory 300, a coworking space and startup ecosystem in Linz, and also spoke to students excited to apply for future ATA exchanges. Alexis even accidentally joined a hackathon dance party hosted by Pioneer Festival! The Roadshow cruised to Innsbruck, for an informative roundtable discussion about the impact of GDPR on startups and entrepreneurs. We ended on a high note with breathtaking views on a hike to the top of Nordkette Mountain with ATA alumni.

Getting to connect with so many different Austrian entrepreneurs during the Roadshow reaffirmed the importance of having an international mindset. Understanding different cultures and the commonalities across borders encourages us to think and act in ways that are globally beneficial. Being a global entrepreneur doesn’t have to mean solving problems on a global scale — it’s about having the adaptability and passion to create a better world, one community at a time. All in all, the first Austria to Austin Roadshow was a huge success, and we look forward to building many more bridges from 3DS to the world!
